Hachiya Orthopaedic Hospital

Our Medical Concept

The goal of Hachiya Orthopaedic Hospital is to provide cutting-edge medical services as a highly specialized orthopaedic hospital.

We mainly perform Spinal deformity surgery, Arthroplasty, and Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine focusing on minimally invasive surgery (MIS) with a small incision.

To meet the patients' requests of returning to work as soon as possible with less painful treatment, we are striving to shorten the period of hospitalization and rehabilitation while providing the best possible orthopedic techniques and ensuring safety.

Please contact us, if you have any troubles related to the spine such as a back pain, stiff shoulder and spinal compression fracture.

People in the most productive years of 30s and 40s
who develop Lumbar Disk Herniation

⇒ Microendoscopic Discectomy (MED)

(with less than 2cm skin incision and 2-4 days short hospitalization)

Normal Disc

This surgical approach is from the back of the spine with less then 2cm skin incision.

Herniated Disc

The surgeon removes the patient's disc herniation carefully without nerve damage by checking the endoscopic monitor.

Spinal Compression Fracture

⇒ Balloon Kyphoplasty (BKP)

(Approximately 1 cm skin incision and 1 day short hospitalization after the surgery)

Lumbar Canal Stenosis with leg pain or numbness in the lower extremity.

⇒ Minimally Invasive Spine Decompression

(with less than 3-4cm skin incision and 5-6 days short hospitalization)

Lower back pain caused by Spondylolisthesis, Scoliosis and Kyphos
or Posture Abnormalities.

⇒ Lumbar Spinal Fusion (Minimally Invasive or Conventional)

Stiff shoulder and Numbness in the hand caused by
compressed cervical nerves.

⇒ Anterior or Posterior Cervical Decompression

As you can see, HACHIYA provides the advanced treatment with cutting edge medical equipment to offer specialized orthopaedic treatment to patients with musculoskeletal disorders. We, the doctors at Hachiya, always try to keep in mind what the best treatment for the patient is, not the best treatment for health care providers.

But we believe patients and doctors should work with each other in the medical care. Patients and doctors should mutually understand each other's views on the treatment. That is the most important concept in medical cares, "Informed Consent". So please feel free to express anything you want, and let's decide the best treatment for you together.

We will do everything to meet your requests by proposing the best treatment from the multiple treatment options.

Please note that a patient may be refused to be given surgery for the following reasons:
・the patient is unable to take sufficient leave from work
・advanced age of the patient
・the surgery required is too complex or delicate to be carried out safely
・the patient wants to avoid a skin incision

If you fit into the description mentioned above, please free to contact us at your convenience.

Please contact us if you have any joint troubles such as the pain in hip and knee joints and degenerative joint disorder.

Examples (Hip)

Acetabular Dysplasia, Previous Osteoarthritis for younger patients

⇒ Rotational Acetabular Osteotomy (RAO)

Intermediate~Advanced Hip Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis

⇒ Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA)

For the Replacement of Loosening Primary THA

⇒ Revision THA

(with Impaction Bone Grafting(IBG) or Femoral reconstruction using Massive allograft)

Examples (Knee)

Medial Knee Osteoarthritis (For 40s and 50s)

⇒ High Tibial Osteotomy (HTO)

Medial Knee Osteoarthritis for elder patients

⇒ Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty (UKA)

Medial and lateral Knee Osteoarthritis for Intermediate-Advanced,
Rheumatoid Arthritis

⇒ Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA)

We believe that our mission is to increase the number of elderly people who can actively enjoy their lives. In short, we should help extend healthy life expectancy and one of the solutions is artificial joints. However, we have never and never will recommend Arthroplasty unnecessarily. Different patients have different degrees of joint deformity. Each patient has different goals of treatment, ie, to enjoy playing sports or walking without pain or to be able to sit on your knees again.
The doctors at HACHIYA are striving to offer customized surgery for individual patients and we study and explore minimally invasive surgery to a maximum extent. But it is not the size of the skin incision that is the most important. The most and foremost important thing in the treatment is the precise and reliable surgery for good post-operative results in the long term.
In addition, Arthroplasty requires long post-operative follow-up, and the patients are normally expected to see the doctor for 10 to 20 years after the surgery. So the doctors carefully examine the patients and are fully prepared to perform the surgery.

Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine

Please contact us, if you want to come back to athletic activity, or if you have a pain in knee or shoulder joints when doing sports, manual labor and house chore in daily life.

The physical pains during sports are serious problems for athletes, even for the elderly who
enjoy jogging and golf.

We specialize in sports medicine and accurately diagnose the symptoms of sports injury through ultrasound scan and MRI scan. We then customize the best treatment to the individual patient taking their competitive level into consideration. If the patient develops a minor injury, we instruct the patient to play in the correct form of the sport, appropriate stretching exercise and sports taping method, while he or she continues to practice the sport. When the patient develops a serious injury, we may ask the patient to take a rest for a certain period.

Our surgical specialty in the Arthroscopic section is knee ligament and meniscus surgery, shoulder dislocation and rotator cuff surgery with Arthroscopy. Arthroscopic surgery does not need a large incision in the joint, so the post-operative pains are not so severe and the patients rehabilitate as early as possible.

Examples (Knee)

Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Injury

⇒ Arthroscopic ACL Reconstruction

with using Autologous hamstring tendon graft or Autologous bone-tendon-bone graft

  • General Anesthesia and possible early ambulation with 3-5 days short hospitalization after the surgery
  • Returning to Sports within 6-12 months

Meniscus Injury

⇒ Arthroscopic Meniscus REPAIR/PARTIAL Meniscectomy

  • General anesthesia and possible early ambulation with one day short hospitalization after the surgery
  • Returning to Sports within 3-6 months for repair, and 1-3 months for Partial Menisectomy

Examples (Shoulder)

Repetitive Dislocation of the Shoulder Joint

⇒ Arthroscopic Bankart Repair

  • General anesthesia and possible early ambulation with 3-5 days short hospitalization after the surgery
  • Returning to Sports within 3-6 months

Rotator Cuff Injury

⇒ Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair (ARCR)

  • General anesthesia and possible early ambulation with 5-7 days short hospitalization after the surgery
  • Returning to Sports within 3-6 months
